Word Circles Briefing note

Saturday 25th February

This briefing describes the first event of the Global Dialogues project, Word Circles. This session introduced the framework, methods, public participation, and conclusions. For the February event, there´s a call for participants inviting them to submit a survey to register for the event in advance to the key areas/subjects, to establish the focus of the Word Circle to discuss.

The meeting was developed between Cristina Jimenez, Teesri Duniya´s founder and artistic director, Rahul Varma, Dipti Gupta vice president, and community attendees. Firstly, there are opening words where Cristina presents her statement and vision of the project. Everyone agrees that the session is documented in video, audio, and photo. Then Rahul Varma talks about land commitment and Teesri Duniya´s perspective on the subject of land acknowledgement.

Subsequently, Cristina proceeds to set up the conditions for the Dialogue following five principles based on ancestral concepts to establish a conversation: silence, listening, thought, speaking the sweet word, and gratefulness. Moreover, there’s a description of the elements displayed in the room and their relation to the symbolic universe of the word circles.

The dialogue begins with the question of institutions, art development, and the challenges that artists have had to deal with during the last 30 years.
